What is the X-SYSTRA challenge ?

The X-SYSTRA challenge is an international student fencing competition, which gathers each year more than 300 attendees between 18 and 30 years old. It takes place in Palaiseau, in the suburbs of Paris, on Ecole Polytechnique’s campus. For its 32nd edition, it will be held from the 7th to the 9th of March 2024.

Who can participate in the challenge ?

All students able to practice fencing can subscribe to the challenge. Please note that supporting documents will be demanded during the subscription.

Who does organize the challenge ?

The challenge is organized by the student fencing association of the Ecole Polytechnique. It is composed of two dozens of second-year student at the school.

What options do I have to choose during the subscription ?

You have to choose one formula (see here: ) and the competitions in which you want to participate (weapon + individual and/or by team).

What documents are required ?

All participants must provide a medical certificate and a student proof. Fencing licenses serve as medical certificates. For instance, you can provide choice : Medical certificate + student card or Fencing license + student card or For French competitors, FFSU license suffices.

How will I pay for my formula ?

Payments will take place on our website during the subscription, through a Lydia collect. In order to pay, you will be asked a phone number and a credit card. If you fail paying through Lydia, another option of payment by bank transfer will be proposed to you.

Can I change my formula ?

As far as subscriptions are opened, changes of formulas will be allowed. We invite you to contact us at contact@xsystra.fr if you are in this situation.

Accomodation and meals

Where will the competitors be accommodated ?

Competitors will be hosted in different hotels in the areas, in two-people or three-people bedrooms according to the availabilities. Shuttles will travel between the hotels and the competition place.


How will the tournaments be refereed ?

Matches will be self-refereed until the quarter finals. The FIE’s rules will be applied during the matches. From the quarter finals, weapons will be checked and therefore must comply with the technical standards of the FIE.

What equipment do I need ?

Each fencer must bring their own equipment. Any extra-equipment will be left at the end of the fencing track during the matches.


Which travels are included ?

All travels from the competition place and the suggested hotels are included in our services. No shuttles will be planned between other hotels.

How to access Ecole Polytechnique ?

By road : From Porte d'Orléans or Porte d'Italie, take highway A6 then follow "Cité scientifique". From Pont de Sèvres : take highway N118. By public transportation : From Lozère station (RER B): take "Sentier Edme Jomard" (requires you to climb up 300 stairs to reach the campus). Airports : Orly airport (via RER B and Orly Val) Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport (direct via RER B)
